All landscape paintings were painted on location, "en plein air". It's exciting to get out of the studio, go up to the mountains, stand beside a river or ocean and paint what you see and feel. Enjoying the breeze against your skin and through your hair, feeling the warmth of the sun or crispness of the air, smelling the earth and water, and hearing nature all around you, compels recording the image and emotions that are being experienced. Sometimes an occasional gnat will fly into the painting; I leave him there as a testament to the moment.
